Harry Potter is an upcoming fantasy TV series from HBO, based on J.K. Rowling’s iconic book series. Produced by HBO, Warner Bros. Television, Brontë Film & TV, and Heyday Films, the show stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
The wider cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Plans for the series were first revealed in 2021, with a long-term vision to adapt the books faithfully over the course of a decade. Francesca Gardiner leads the project as showrunner, with Mark Mylod directing. Casting for the main trio followed an extensive search of over 32,000 actors before the final selections were confirmed in 2025. Filming officially began in July 2025 at Leavesden Studios in England.
Originally planned for HBO Max, the series later shifted to HBO, where it is now set to premiere in December 2026 in the U.S. The first season will consist of eight episodes.
