"There's a great will to make it. And a great will amongst us all to get it right, to do it, to find the time, to find the right team," he told The Playlist.

"I think there's a new iteration of the script I haven't yet read. And then there's a case of 'How expensive is it? And can we get it made?'"
Downey himself has embraced the uncertainty with typical dry humor.
"I don't know. People are talking about it. (Susan Downey)'is the producer and will have the last word. It's the greatest mystery."
The actor’s wife Susan Downey, who produces through Team Downey, has perhaps offered the clearest reassurance that the sequel remains important.
"Here's what I can tell you," she began. "Prior to this, we had lunch together with Robert... It was a very specific topic of conversation, so yes. It is in the hopper. We're gonna do it when it's right with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert."
Ritchie has likewise made it clear that his enthusiasm never disappeared.
"I adore Downey, and I adored making those two movies," he said. "Look, I think it's just honestly a question of just aligning our schedules."
He added, "I know the appetite for it's there, but the appetite for it from our side is there, too. So, we'd love to make that happen. I just don't know how it's going to happen. It's amazing that it hasn't happened."
Then there is Jared Harris, whose Professor Moriarty became one of the highlights of A Game of Shadows. His response has been considerably less optimistic.
"I have no idea - no one's talking to me about it," the actor admitted. "And I really wish people would stop asking me... I mean, no one's talking to me about it. I have no clue."
At least somebody in this mystery is being completely honest.

His stylized slow-motion deduction sequences, rapid editing, playful humor, and pulpy action gave the stories an identity all their own.
