Kpop Demon Hunters 2 is already being discussed by Netflix and Sony after the original film became the most-watched movie of 2025. While the sequel hasn’t been officially confirmed, reports suggest a follow-up is in early development — and fans are already demanding its release.
Will there be a KPop Demon Hunters 2?
Yes — while Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed the sequel, multiple reports suggest KPop Demon Hunters 2 is in development. With the first film becoming Netflix’s biggest movie of 2025, a sequel is widely expected, though it may not be released until around 2029.
Why KPop Demon Hunters Became Netflix’s Biggest Movie Ever
KPop Demon Hunters revolves around a K-Pop trio called HUNTR/X – consisting of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey – who tears up the stage by day and tears up demons by night. With their songs, they power up the Honmoon, an invisible shield protecting the barrier between our world and the underworld. However, the leader of the HUNTR/X, Rumi, carries a secret – she’s actually half-demon, a deeply shameful truth that fuels her drive to seal the Honmoon for good. HUNTR/X’s triumphant run faces its biggest obstacle yet when the underworld king sends five of his underlings to masquerade as boy group Saja Boys, who steal people’s souls with infectious music. Their arrival kicks off a clash between good and evil set against the colorful, quirky world of K-Pop fandom.

KPop Demon Hunters 2 Release Date: When Could the Netflix Sequel Arrive?
By the end of the film, HUNTR/X seals the Honmoon and frees the world from the demons trying to steal human souls. It ended on a high note for our protagonists, but still leaves a couple of burning questions worth exploring – this is where a sequel could totally fill the gap, and boy, does the whole world clamor for one!
The film not only became Netflix’s most-watched film in history, but it also set the record as the most-watched film in 2025, period. Everywhere you go, “Golden” and “Soda Pop” are playing on repeat — and online, dance and song covers inspired by the movie have racked up billions of views worldwide. It didn’t just enter the zeitgeist; it launched a full takedown and ruled the entire year. You know those “encore” chants heard at the end of a concert? The whole planet is now chanting for a K-pop Demon Hunters comeback.
But it might be a while until that happens.

In November last year, Bloomberg did report that Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation – the studio behind the phenomenon – have a deal set for a sequel in the works… for 2029. Yes, a whole four years at least until we get to see Rumi and co back in the spotlight. Animation does take a lot more time to produce than live-action films, so the gap makes sense – though it didn’t make it any less aggravating for fans. Both the streamer and the studio declined to confirm or deny the rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, judging by the rapturous reactions to the film and the production team’s equally obvious excitement, it’s hard to imagine a sequel not being in the cards.
Is KPop Demon Hunters 2 Confirmed by Netflix?
"Stay tuned," EJAE, the singing voice for HUNTR/X's lead singer Rumi, told E! when asked about it last September. "Who knows, you know?"
Audrey Nuna – the vocalist for HUNTR/X's Mira – echoed her sentiment, saying with a wink, "We’re waiting as well for the call."
Likewise, the third HUNTR/X Rei Ami – who voiced rapper Zoey – also told E! that she’s "waiting for the call.”
She added, "You're gonna find out when I do, so we'll chat then."
Looks like everyone’s been active on the same group chat, sharing very similar responses to the million-dollar question.

KPop Demon Hunters 2 Cast: Who Could Return for the Sequel?
Most importantly, Maggie Kang – who co-directed the film with Chris Appelhans – has expressed her interest in diving deeper into the fantasy world she created. “We’ve set up so much for potential backstory,” she told Variety in July 2025. “Obviously, there are a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored. We had to do that because there’s only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes.”
When the brain and the voices that lit up the screen are in harmony about the future of the franchise, we know it’s just a matter of time. However, they might be taking some time to enjoy their victory lap these days. With all the accolades it’s been getting, both cast and creators of KPop Demon Hunters are on a roll – making appearances in awards shows and TV programmes nonstop. With a full-blown Oscar campaign currently afoot, the team rightfully has its hands full. According to Kang, though there are so many possibilities on what’s next, they’ve got no time to really think about it yet.

“Our creative brains are sitting on a couch,” Kang told People Magazine in early January – a cheeky reference to her characters’ favorite way to relax. “Even though our bodies are here.”
One thing that she can definitively confirm: there will be NO live-action adaptation.
"There are so many elements of the tone and the comedy that are so suited for animation,” she told the BBC in October. “It's really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So, totally it wouldn't work for me."
Indeed, we fell in love with KPop Demon Hunters’ wacky, overzealous aesthetic, which was only possible because of its medium. Besides, it’s more fun to revisit the HUNTR/X we fell in love with in the next track of their life, don’t you think?

KPop Demon Hunters 2 Plot: What Will the Sequel Be About?
As Kang herself said, the film has a lot of tidbits that could open up a whole new arena for a sequel to explore. Things like the origin of “girl groups as guardians” premise introduced at the beginning of the film, which ties directly into the story of Rumi’s parentage. What is the identity of Rumi’s demon father? The film never reveals whether he lived or died, and it’s easy to imagine him still out there, roaming and ready to bring chaos back into her life.
And then there’s the Jinu of it all. Conflicted half-demon-half-man with constantly shifting allegiance, he’s got his redemption arc in the end by sacrificing for Rumi – but is that all for our pretty boy demon? His death helped seal the Honmoon, but Gwi-ma the Demon King is far from defeated. There are so many fun ways to imagine Gwi-ma plotting revenge against our HUNTR/X. Defeated enemies striking back is one of the most exciting genres of all time, ask “The Empire Strikes Back.” That would mean the return of the demons, including (fingers crossed!) our redeemed antihero Jinu and, for the sake of Prides all over the world, the rest of the Saja Boys. The group only got to release two songs before vanishing. I’d say we deserve a sophomore album!
